Branding

A lot of people think branding is simply logo development or an expensive endeavor meant for the Coca-Colas and Apples of this world. Think again. In today’s multi-platform, information overloaded environment, understanding yourself and your customer is paramount to staying competitive. Unsure if you’re branding effectively? Start by asking yourself:

1. What’s my value proposition?
2. What do I stand for? (Treat it like a person – fun, trustworthy, small, big, serious, laid back)
3. What are my customers’ benefits?
4. Does my website articulate No. 1, 2 & 3?
5. Do I include my logo on every piece of communication?
6. Do I have a two-way dialog with my customers?

Why is branding important?

Without a brand story, your company will appear insincere and scattered in its message. When visitors come to your website, they want to know three things: what you do, why they should pick you and how you can help them. Your brand should evoke authenticity, value and quality.

Creating a recognized, consistent brand and then promoting and protecting its brand equity should be at the core of your marketing strategy. But that’s not to say you should spend a fortune. We’re all for professional-looking logos – just make sure there’s enough left in the budget to get it out there. A logo’s visibility, recognition and meaning are much more important than its prettiness or sophistication. (Having said that, we cringe when we see archaic or just plain ugly logos!)
